FAQs

What are the minimum qualifying marks required for a candidate to appear in the FRI written test?

To be eligible for the written test, candidates must have obtained at least 50% aggregate marks at the B.Sc./M.Sc. level (for General category candidates) and 45% aggregate marks (for SC/ST candidates), as prescribed for admission to various courses.

Is the entrance test separate for each programme?

No. It’s a common test for all four programmes. You may apply to multiple courses in the same cycle, but submit separate applications and fees as per eligibility.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. There is a negative marking of one-fourth (1/4) of the marks allotted to the question for every wrong answer.

What’s the exam mode in 2025?

Offline OMR. From 2025 onward, the exam has reverted from remote-proctored CBT (2020–2024) to OMR.

Where should I verify official updates?

Always cross-check with official notifications and bulletins on fridu.edu.in before applying.

Can anyone tell me about the cut-off marks?

The Forest Research Institute (FRI) does not officially release cut-off marks for its entrance exam. The cut-off is variable each year as it depends on the difficulty of the question paper and the overall performance of the candidates. While our experience suggests a competitive score is often in the 75-80% range, this is not a fixed or official figure. Therefore, the best strategy is to prepare thoroughly and aim for the highest possible score.
